First Family Holiday - Days 1 & 2

We took so many pictures and videos on our 5 day holiday that I am going to have to split the blog entries down a bit.

The day we left we had a nice plan to leave around the kids nap times, having fed Leo etc so they could sleep in the car and we could make as much progress as possible before having to stop to change nappies, go to the toilet and do more feeds.

I finished the packing and loaded the car and we set off just before 11am.

Almost immediately we found out that the M5, the main fast road to where we were going, was shut for a couple of junctions. It was then horrendous! We were stuck in traffic on the motorway, on the slip road, on the roundabout, and then the A roads after! Ellis woke up as we were on the roundabout saying he needed a wee wee and could Daddy stop the car now. Rob pulled up onto some grass and held him up by the side of the road. We then rejoined the queue in exactly the same place as the traffic hadn't moved!

We found a pub to stop at for toilet breaks and to feed the children. It was quite nice inside but the food wasn't good. Mine was okay but Rob wasn't happy with his.

Having looked at a map Rob decided a new route to take us away from the traffic. It would be a long way out of the way but it ended up being a very pretty drive which made it not so bad.

We were in the car for a very, very long time and Leo was screaming as we pulled up into the caravan site.

I checked us in, grabbed some bedding and the key and we went straight to our static van which we would call home, it was 7:10pm, 8 hours 20 minutes after we left home.

We were shattered but we still had to have dinner, set the beds up and get the boys ready and in bed.

Here are some pictures of the inside of the van but they weren't all taken that evening.

Ellis slept really well in his Thomas bed. I was concerned that he would leave the room and wander through the van at night, or even try to get out the door, but he didn't. He remained in his room until I went in to see him in the morning, and he asked, "can I get up now?".

Leo on the other hand was a complete horror. I ended up sleeping with him on my chest, which although cosy, wasn't very comfortable.

We had breakfast then went out to have a look around the camp site. There was lots to see and it was really quiet.

We looked in the arcades and Ellis had a go on some rides.

We then went to the small soft play area. It was rubbish but Ellis had a run around for 30 minutes and I joined him in the ball pool which was quite good fun.

Next stop was Newquay town centre so that we could find somewhere to have lunch. We parked up and had a look at the view before walking down a big hill to the shops and cafes.

We eventually found a nice looking pub which had a good view and tables outside. We had to wait a while for our food and when it came out Rob again wasn't happy with it so it was sent back this time and he went without.

The weather was just right for the beach so that's where we went next. Ellis did not like the sand to start with but eventually walked on it okay. Going into the sea was another matter.

Rob then buggy sat so I could go for a run with Ellis along the beach. We pretended we were on horses, which I loved to do as a kid.

Leo eventually woke up and it was his turn to experience the sand and sea.

He wasn't that impressed.

It was time to go and Rob pushed the buggy and the boys back up the huge hill, with no shoes on to the car park. I really wanted Ellis to run around on the grass and to look at the view, so that's what we did.

Back at the van we had story time and then dinner, shower and bed. We did do a video of me and the boys in the shower but for obvious reasons I can't post it on here. We had great fun and Ellis seemed to enjoy the novelty.

Next instalment coming soon.
