Leo is 1

Everything was back to normal on the Monday following the party. Ellis went to school in the morning and I went to the big shops and bought lots of stuff! Had a wicked time.

After the boys had their afternoon nap they tried to chill inside for a bit.

Later on, when there was some shade in the garden, I took them outside to get some fresh air. They played really well together and I loved watching them and just hanging out.

They both like to play with the car and Ellis is really good about it but there just isn't quite enough room for both of them to sit in it, although they do try.

On Tuesday we had Mummy afternoon at our house. Charlotte and Sharon arrived early and I was able to pick Ellis up from school and then go to the health visitor with Leo.

Leo weighed about 21lbs 5oz. I say about because he kept moving and the scales never actually set a weight. He is just above the 25% line. Ellis was always above the 75% line.

Back at the house everyone had sat in, which was fine and play time commenced. My boys went to bed for a bit but when they woke up I did a little plate of food for all the toddlers and they sat to the table together eating, which was really cute.

The following day was the official birthday for Leo and I. I was born at night and he was born in the morning so we could split the day and celebrate it like that but we just decided to have a family day.

Rob took the day off of work and we were all up nice and early and out the house not long after breakfast.

First stop was a shop where we had the boys fingerprints taken so that they could be made into pendants for a necklace for me and Rob wanted a keyring. Both boys were very well behaved and did it perfectly first time. It cost £200! I didn't expect that and neither did Rob. Never mind, it's worth it. I'll will post pictures once I have received them.

Next stop was the zoo. We had to line up to get in but it didn't take long and I quickly noticed that it was actually very quiet. We were able to get up close to the exhibits and actually look at the animals. When we went with Chloe and Nanny it was just so busy that we couldn't see a thing!

It was really nice for Ellis to be able to walk around freely without me panicking that he was getting lost in a crowd. He looked in the exhibits himself and was just generally a really good boy.

In the first enclosure were the lions. Unfortunately one of them had recently been put down so the male was the only one left. Leo did his little lion roar which was cute.

Then we met some mongoose.

We looked at loads more and just generally had a good time.

In the bug house, I was sure that Leo was saying spider. So I tried to get it on video. What do you think?

We stopped on the main lawn for a picnic which was just the best. We sat in the shade of a tree and the boys (all 3 of them) were just so well behaved. Leo sat still for 99% of the time and ate his lunch and Ellis, you just didn't notice was there. It was so peaceful and nice. I loved it.

We then took a walk through the monkey enclosure where the monkeys are actually allowed to mingle with the humans.

It was really cool and cute but not as much as our two little monkeys.

More animals were then followed by playtime in the park.

Ellis was getting tired and we wanted him to have a sleep in the car on the way home before we went to his last music class in the afternoon, so we decided to leave. On the way out we spotted a maze and so Rob and Ellis had a quick go.

I must admit it wasn't as exciting as a maze Rob and I did in New Zealand though.

We were right and the boys were asleep pretty much as we pulled out of the car park.

We woke them up to go into Ellis' last Music with Mummy class. It was nice that Rob was there to see what he gets up to and it was nice that Leo got to have a little go too as he missed his earlier class. Everyone sang happy birthday which was also a highlight.

It was actually quite an anticlimax really and I wished we hadn't bothered racing back for it. Not all his friends were there and it just felt a bit flat. Also Debs, the teacher, forgot to even mention that Ellis and Anna were leaving. :o(

Back at home we cheered up by opening up Leo's presents. They started like this...

...and ended up like this.

During the opening Leo wasn't that bothered and Ellis soon got bored so I took over. I had tons of fun, after all it was my birthday too.

The lion theme continued with a balloon and then we did the happy birthday song twice with the lion cake. It was good fun and Ellis seemed to enjoy it all too.

We were all shattered by the end of the day. The boys were bathed and put to bed and then Rob and I sat down with a Chinese takeaway. A great day, and I actually enjoyed sharing my birthday as we actually made a bigger thing of it and had a lush family day. I hope for many, many more.

Just because I love this video, I'm posting it again.
